Cedric Singleton, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Black Market Records, is set to deliver a Master Class on Film and Sync Licensing at this year’s Under Our Skin International Film Festival On Human Rights & Culture, which will be held between November 9 and 17th, 2023, in Nairobi, Kenya.
Running for its 3rd Edition this year, the Under Our Skin Film Festival believes in the power of cross-community dialogues, since human rights issues cut across individuals, and communities, hence the need to invest in creating spaces for people to interact and have dialogues on these issues.
During the festival, content will be screened in informal settlements, cinemas, and host venues across Nairobi. Entries will be eligible for festival competitions, promotion across social media, mentions during the closing ceremony, and festival awards.
As part of the master class, Mr. Singleton will deliver a speech about the importance of film in as far as promoting the creatives industry is concerned, plus why African musicians stand to benefit a lot if record labels operating on the continent enhance Sync Licensing.
It should be noted that Sync Licensing is the process of using music in film, television, advertisements, video games, and other media, which has since become an integral aspect of the modern music industry.
This is because the process provides an array of benefits for both artists and music labels, which Singleton will discuss at length during the Under Our Skin International Film Festival on Human Rights & Culture.
The master class however comes at a very timely moment, especially since it comes shortly after Black Market Records and Virgin Music Group announced a Sync Licensing partnership, which will enable musicians signed under the label to reap more from their music than what the case is currently.
The Under Our Skin Film Festival is a platform that aims to entertain, inform and inspire through the medium of film.
The festival motivates audiences and participants to question, debate, and reflect on the state of human rights in Kenya and internationally.
By actively embracing a cross-cultural exchange, the festival invites audiences and stories from diverse backgrounds. It encourages individuals to think beyond their immediate surroundings and consider the interconnectedness of human rights issues worldwide, thus instilling a sense of understanding, empathy and global citizenship.
