The Revival; Ochungulo Family Back To Their Roots Upon New Signing With Black Market Records.

By Brenda Ochwald.

After vanishing off the music scene for a while, Ochungulo Family return with red-hot form and new release called ‘Liquor Store’. Music legends; we call them, artists whose most songs have hit over a million plus streams on YouTube and digital streaming platforms. They have presently closed a deal with Black Market Records being their new signed records. This enables them to gain access to the label’s connections, resources, and funding pot.

From Kenya’s favorite Kaa Na Mamako, Thutha, Na Iwake to Pandemik, their global reach is a reminder that Ochungulo Family, the gengetone icons, do not and could not exist in a vacuum.

Though they haven’t released a proper studio project since 2020’s sprawling visual statement, Mpenzi Mtazamaji featuring Kansoul, the trio recently premiered an Ep on digital streaming platforms.

The 6 song Ep that consists of; Dudu, Ngwaii, Twa Twa, Chachisha, Bora Uhai and Aluta released as a collection in 2023 despite being premiered almost 3 years ago.

With collaborations by local artists including Exray, Gwaash and Rico Gang, this is a collection of sounds that showcases the group’s ability to seamlessly fuse different gengetone tunes into their music.

For nearly half a decade Ochungulo Family has made gengetone music on their own terms and fans bend to the tracks, not the other way around.

Stay tuned for their present releases by following their social media platforms. Enjoy!
