Marck Don, the rising Zambian artist, is making waves in the Kenyan music scene. Born Mwansa Bazil, Don’s journey into music began at an early age, fueled by a passion for storytelling and a love for the sounds of his homeland.
Don’s musical journey started at just 11 years old, writing songs for established artists like Macky from Zambia and Mr Nice from Tanzania. By 15, he was writing his own music, performing at school and church functions, often miming the songs of popular artists like Macky and BaskaBaska. His first foray into the studio was a bittersweet experience. In December 2012, he was invited to record a verse for a song, but his contribution was ultimately left out, leading to a period of frustration and a temporary abandonment of his musical dreams.
Don turned his attention to football, excelling in the sport from Grade 8 to 9. However, the disappointment of his studio experience lingered, and he eventually returned to his musical passion in Grade 10. This time, he found inspiration in the work of fellow musicians like Good Quality Music, witnessing the enthusiastic support they received from their peers.
Now, Don is back on track, with a growing discography that includes songs like “Rich Man,” “Yeyeye,” “I’m Okay,” and “Ndesunka.” He is currently on a tour of Kenya, aiming to collaborate with new artists, expand his fanbase, and introduce his unique blend of Zambian music to a wider audience. With his captivating storytelling and infectious energy, Marck Don is poised to leave a lasting mark on the Kenyan music scene.
